This blog was developed as a resource for teachers who are looking to incorporate high quality and award winning trade books into their social studies curriculum. I have compiled and cited various reviews on these books, and additionally have listed online resources that will help teachers use these books for instructional purposes.

Gonzalez of Texas: A Congressman for the People
Gonzalez of Texas: A Congressman for the People
Written by: Todd Sloan
"Gonzalez was born in San Antonio, the son of immigrants from Mexico, in 1916. Forty years later he became the first Mexican-Texan elected to the Texas Senate in more than 100 years, and in 1961 he became the first Mexican-Texan to represent the state in the U.S. House of Representatives. He served in the U.S. Congress for more than 30 years. This is his story."
